Challenge

Rajasthan Patrika Pvt. Ltd. runs its corporate office out of Jhalana, Jaipur. Office loads from HVAC, lighting, IT, and everyday building operations fall largely during working hours, which aligns well with when a rooftop plant produces the most. The catch is tariff classification: as a corporate office, the site draws power at commercial rates that sit above industrial tariffs, so the bills were doing more damage than capacity alone would suggest.

Electricity consumption was high and the monthly bills reflected it, inflated further by commercial office tariffs that run above industrial rates. Beyond the immediate cost, the company wanted to stabilize energy costs over the long term rather than keep absorbing whatever the tariff did next, and to improve operational efficiency and sustainability performance while doing it. Reducing carbon emissions was part of the brief, but never at the expense of uninterrupted office operations.

The rooftop was the harder constraint. Usable area was limited, and the spaces below the building carried higher risk if anything went wrong overhead. That raises the stakes on every decision made on the roof, from how the array is anchored to how people move around it afterwards.

Installation had to be executed without interrupting daily schedules and under major safety protocols. There was no window where office operations could be paused to make the work easier, so the build had to be planned around a working office rather than the other way round.

That set the design problem: extract the maximum generation from a small, sensitive roof, integrate it into a plant that cannot disrupt daily office operations, and leave safe maintenance access behind for the years that follow.

Solution

SolarMaxx began with the module layout, because on a roof this size the layout decides the outcome. Panel positions were optimized to minimize shading losses and maximize annual energy generation, so the limited area available delivers the highest yield it can rather than merely holding as many modules as would physically fit.

The array sits on a mini rail mounting structure, which distributes load across the tin shed instead of concentrating it, and the plant was designed to maximize rooftop utilization while keeping safe maintenance access across the roof.

The electrical integration mattered as much as the generation. The plant was engineered for seamless integration with the site's existing HT/LT electrical infrastructure, so a live corporate office with continuous daytime load gained a new power source without any disturbance to the system already running it.

Inverter sizing, string configuration, and cable routing were optimized together rather than separately. The plant uses Sungrow and SMA inverters, connected under net metering, so generation offsets the office's consumption and any surplus is exported to the grid and credited against the bill.

SolarMaxx handled the documentation and regulatory process end to end: the application and the NOC and demand process, meter and CT testing, the metering agreement, CEIG approvals, Form-51 completion, and the final metering and protection work.

From site assessment to commissioning took about three to four months, all of it around a working office schedule.

Outcome

The 278 kW plant generates about 1,097 units of power a day and saves close to Rs. 35 lakh every year. It offsets about 2,106 tonnes of CO2.

Because the plant is on net metering, that generation offsets the office's consumption through the grid and surplus exports are credited, which is what turns daytime sunlight into a direct reduction in the monthly bill and puts a floor under a cost the company could not otherwise predict. Office operations never stopped to make it happen, and the roof it sits on is still safe to reach and maintain, which is what keeps a plant this size earning across its full life.
